Thursday September 14th- Energy

SPX – ON day 16, The SPX has more time & space to climb higher. We still have gaps below that usually fill later on.

I’m sorry that this report is being released 1/2 hr before the markets open,  I ran into a few minor  problems this morning with my internet.  I had to hurry and upload the charts and write this entire report, without double checking for Typos, so please excuse any that you may find. Thank You.

USD – The USD has been weak and in a downtrend for sure. It looks ready to break out and we have been expecting an ICL.  If the USD finally gains some strength here, you have to wonder how that will affect Precious Metals, since they used to have a pretty solid INVERSE relationship historically.  I am watching 93.

WTIC –  Oil continued higher and is bullish. It is at resistance, so watch the $49.61 area , we’ll see if it can break out.  This is day 8 of possibly 30 – 50 days, so this can move a lot higher if it remains bullish.

XLE–  This looks rather convincing too. We did have a break out that failed in July, but the RSI on this break is showing good strength.

NATGAS – NATGAS also has a bullish set up ( Today is the inventory report, we’ll see if it can continue higher).  With both OIL & GAS Bullish, let’s look at OIL & GAS stocks again.

XLE – Again, the XLE has broken out in almost a vertical rise.

BTE–  Lower low, lower highs, and now a possible high low and higher high coming up.

CRC – I pointed this one out yesterday, and the follow through was minor, so it is still a valid buy with a stop under the 50sma.

OAS – Oas moved higher yesterday out of the lows.  This is one that I used to buy & hold often. Nice volume.

NOTE:

SWN –  SWN looks great, but I was stopped out in the spring when it also looked great, so what do you do?  When an entire sector and all of the energy Oil &Gas stocks move bullishly at once,  you just have to buy and USE A STOP. Maybe raise a stop as it moves higher to lock in gains, and re-enter on a pull back, etc

HCLP –  Look at the RSI, it has not been above the 50% mark about 6 months. This flat base has broken the down trend and looks to be ready to move higher now too.

WLL –

WE HAVE AN FOMC MEETING NEXT WEDNESDAY THAT USUALLY AFFECTS GOLD, SILVER, & MINERS (AND THE USD).

GOLD –  Gold has support in this $1320 area, and then stronger support in the $1300 area.

NOTE:  Gold is a Bullish Set Up and I am still holding my miners.  One thing that I do not like about this set up is simply how the Precious Metals respond to the USD when it rises, and the USD  looks like it wants to break out & run higher.  I am watching these two areas and will continue to monitor it going forward.  I will cover it in the weekend report.   CURRENTLY I SEE THE USD FLYING THIS a.m. , AND GOLD RESISTING AND TRYING TO GO GREEN.  THAT IS A GOOD SIGN.  🙂

EDIT:  At second glance,  the USD chart looks like the time is from Sept 13th/ yesterday while Gold charts are reflecting Sept 14th.  That’s odd.

GOLD –  Here we see that GOLD can continue a bit lower time & space wise.

SILVER – This is also bullish and holding near the highs.

GDX#1 –  Some of the Miners are barely pulling back, but GDX & GDXJ are doing a normal correction.  This is why I cut my leverage last Friday, we were due for this pullback.   Notice the stochastics are not oversold.

GDX #2 – If we were to get a rally in the USD, I am worried that we could possibly get a back test of this triangle break out or the 50sma.  If the USD is held back, this could bull flag.  We have an FOMC MTG WEDNESDAY.

GDX#3 –  Bottom line:  We had a bullish break out from triangle patterns.  How it plays out is the big question.  I’d like to see this up-trending channel hold up, but a drop to the 50sma is still possible.

The 3 charts above are my answer to the emails asking me ” CAN I BUY JNUG OR NUGT AGAIN YET ?”  At this point, that kind of a possible drop would hurt you in a 3x ETF.  A USD POP would hurt you in a 3x ETF.  Be safe, be careful.

GDXJ – 2 reasonable support areas are shown

GV –  I was asked to update my thoughts on GV & MBOT from a prior report.  GV had a quick mini-shake out, but they are involved in infrastructure work in the Florida area.  I mentioned that last year with hurricane Matthew in Florida, I made a good trade on this stock.   It continued to have follow through and may just keep running at this point.

MBOT –  It is still in a basing pattern.  It has POPPED at times.  I am in this one and will hold it for now.  If it CLOSES below the $1.00 area, I may decide to let it go, but so far this is inside of a base.

This was Wednesday chart in the report showing the same thing, nothing has changed.

This was also in a report, and I said that when this one pops, it really pops, but I also said that THIS IS PROBABLY THE RISKIEST TRADE THAT WE HAVE BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT MOVES HIGHER & LOWER.   It is unpredictable on a day to day basis.

Enjoy your trading day on this Thursday.

If you read the report soon after I released it and saw the 3 charts ( of Gold, Silver, & the USD all together ) without the edited remark, I have edited that remark, upon further observation.

      Hey 5-0
How are things in your area now? I believe you were West coast Fl, and my wife & I were scheduled to meet some friends in Sarasota next week, but we are getting mixed reports on how much is up & running. Seems that most businesses are back up & running now.

Yes. We’re close to Sarasota in Venice and things are coming back. We got our power back Tuesday, but not everyone in our community has theirs back. And from what I hear it’s the same in Sarasota. The same with businesses. Some up and some not.

Yes, I just made a few calls, they have power in many areas – the area that we were staying at does have power, but no Cable or internet ( NO INTERNET!!! and no promises as to when they will restore it) 🙁

Thanks & glad you guys are getting going again.

P.S. I accidentally called the wrong number & the good news is that The New Daquiry Deck on the water is open – lol

I’ve been there probably 10 times in my life- I love it there on Eagle Beach or Palm. Very very nice locals and clean , relaxing, paradise on the coast at the resorts.
We might go in 2018 – we were thinking St. Maartin for our anniversary, but the place that we stay at is suffering from the last storm.

Alex….when you get a chance can you see what you think of AKS? I’ve been holding, thought it would be a good one in light of all the damage from hurricanes, but it’s done nothing but fall….not sure if it’s flagging and should hold or just toss in the towel…? Thanks in advance!

Going through the report….I just found a huge typo – In Oil I MEANT TO WRITE we were on day 8 of possible 30-50.
Instead I wrote we were on day 8 or possible 30-50.

Corrected to day 8 OF 30-50 days. NOT day 8 or 30-50.

So the RELY I mentioned late last night…I was too busy watching my AKS go down this morning and didn’t jump on that….arghhh. Up 12.5% already. Sheesh.

    Hey Alex,
What do you think of TAHO, possibly just closing some of that large gap of a couple of days ago (currently going on) with at least some kind of re-test of the recent high?

    • RonB
      RonB says:

That gap was from the Guatemala government allowing them to re-open the 3rd largest silver mine in the world, so personally I would be surprised if that one fills.

      • pankef
        pankef says:

Sorry Ron, I was not suggesting it gets filled, rather look for some kind of clue that we are turning back up to retest the $7 high

        • RonB
          RonB says:

Ii know – just looking for clues too. What you said seems logical to me, but then logic does not always cause the stock price to behave! They had a big hiccup and for sure lost some annual revenue, but they are such a good company with a really good balance sheet, no debt etc.

The selling on Taho seems to be lightening up. I was thinking that it could get down to the 50sma with a good Gold pull back, but it might not. I like the Taho story

I don’t have any thoughts on that. The chart is exactly the same.

It is up 45% from August lows, so it is a leader, not a lagger. It is probably just consolidating some gains. Chart is bullish

when I am in a hurry skimming comments – I dont always reply, but I do take a look at my watch list and check the charts.

My energy old favorites are LGCY, OAS, SWN, SN. SM, DQ, AREX, and MANY more : )
We really did great on those out of the lows in 2016

If this is day 16 or 17 for the general stock markets, could today be last gasp day as they get ready to head down to the DCL. If so yesterday was a lower high for the Nasdaq and Russell.

      Cason says:

Maybe. I guess still no ICL yet? New highs threw my count off as I had been expecting a C wave down. Back to the drawing board!

Also, glad I locked up some profs with GSV (all on the way down) as its flirting with only 4 cents above my initial entry now… Shame. Oh well, these things happen. Hope everyones trading well today and take care team, off to actually get out and do something outdoors with the wife today!

Hate to see you leave the GSV train, I´m still loaded up in it. I have a good average cost so can take the volatility. I am not sure if I will add to this one since I have other miners to buy.

Im not out 100%, im 3/4 out. But with how its underperforming – dont rally see the need to hold the last 2k shares.. Guess just doing it in case this is the dcl and we head higher soon.

the fact it sounds like a Hansen record shouldve warned me

  9. chartfreak1
    chartfreak1 says:

I went outside and got some thing done for a couple of hours, and when I came back, Gold had gone from roughly $1315 to $1330. Impressive.

Some Miners like DRD, KLDX, HMY ( looks like a buy) , RIC and several others have reversed higher.

And then I saw ( from my watch list) KDKGF using only the 50sma . WHAT?? That is impressive.

Is it a dcl? It is simply too early to know with just a reversal in place, but it is encouraging to see several Miners near recent highs at this point.

  10. Ralph Wiederzane
    Ralph Wiederzane says:

My First Mining Finance (FFMGF) hung in really well in this recent pullback, I´m adding to this one today.

  11. Ralph Wiederzane
    Ralph Wiederzane says:

I was wondering if miner bulls buying leveraged etfs like NUGT might actually hurt them, in that these etfs are just derivatives so they don´t actually buy the stocks? I am not sure, but if this is the case, the leveraged etfs would actually be bleeding off demand for the miners or metals, whatever the etf is supposed to follow. The underlying stocks or metal don´t get the inflow of funds?

up 4 cents on a position in HOS that would have had me up 11-12 cents already if my fat finger fumble didnt AVG way up 5 days ago instead of selling… Bought at Open last week, Sold (actually bought the same amount) at the top… Trades like this stink until you’re green and then you pretend its been fine the whole time.

    • BayTrader

so for now Im in the green.. but the swings this thing takes intra day and where my entry is… Im just bitter about my position. original at 3.10 woulda been fine…

Have you sold a lot after hours? Like…not right after the market closes but an hour or 2 later…? Was just wondering if it’s hard to sell then or if the sell orders get filled fairly quickly….

          • BayTrader
            BayTrader says:

            Tammie,

I often buy many of my positions AH or PM. Although its the same thing, I often find it less “heartracing” and my mind can clearly think it thru. Selling in AH is always fine for me – it just depends on the stock. Needs liquidity.. JNUG is one of those that is always moving. There are some as you can obviously see that will have a huge gap between the ask and bid and closing price, so selling would be iffy as youd prob. not get a good take.

          • Cason
            Cason says:

Like Bay said, just watch bid/ask spread on low vol/low float. You can’t unload everything AH. Also, pops can be exaggerated due to low vol so early AM PM pops can give back a bit as compared to regular market hours.

  13. Tammie
    Tammie says:

Started to get JNUG at end of day…..because I knew N Korea tensions would likely send gold up…but…nooooo, I decided not to…..JNUG up $1.26 now AH’s….

      • Tammie
        Tammie says:

I personally think it’s NK that caused the move in gold after hours……but that’s just me…and yeah, things can change quickly so JNUG would either be great or….not….:)
