Lets Wrap This Week Up

Another great week of trading!   Lets wrap this week up…

.

SPX –  Will Friday s Job report end the recent rally? We are approaching resistance.

SPX 3-3

I’ve been expecting the USD to roll over.  It may have started, we’ll watch for follow through.  That drop likely helped  Gold today.

USD 3-3

.

I have received several NATGAS inquisitions this week.   It may be bottoming here, but I’d wait for a break higher first.

NATGAS 3-3

.

GOLD !  Yes, Gold broke out and with some follow through,  this is round 2 🙂

.

GOLD broke out of the Flag today.  Gold has worked off its overbought condition. We may be on our way to the  $1300 area, if it is not a head-fake.  I think it should have follow through.

GOLD 3-3

I posted this Feb 24. Its not out of the question if this gets going. For now, 1 step at a time.

GOLD FLAG 2-24

.

SILVER – I used the SLV here,  is now oversold and almost breaking out. Silver stocks are little rocket-ships now.  Silver could finally break out & run strongly.

SLV 3-3

Miners are breaking out all over the place from recent consolidations, and if this Gold break out has follow through, they could get ridiculously overbought.   They are a buy if you dont own them.

I cant post 100 charts, so I will just post a few  examples of what to look for, and we want to see Golds break follow through too.

.

EXK –  Break out.  So you buy the break out and put a stop in a reasonable area.  Price should not re-enter the break out. See also AG and SLW a bit further down.

EXK 3-3

 .

TGD –  This was my March 1 chart when it was 23 cents.  It is 26 now. Will it go to 30 cents? Most likely, but…

TGD 3-1

TGD – The bigger picture picture for some of these, if we are in a recovery picture, is very promising.

TGD 3-3

ABX – See how these lage bases can move a stock back to prior highs?  That is why we say that bear markets turning to bull markets leave the nervous buyers behind if they dont catch the lows. With that in mind…

ABX 2-23

AG-  I’d buy the break out ( Unless you bought the consolidation)  and just keep an eye on it as it moves higher.  “Stop” either below the consolidation, or if that is too much loss, stop out if it re-enters the consolidation. See SSRI, PAAS, etc

AG 3-3

SLV –

SLW 3-3

.

And the energy sector was Electric today, many of the picks (maybe all) from the past week were up big –  some were up 20-30% yesterday and today.

Mini-Lesson about these lows

Let me start by stating  this important point. Just like with X, AKS, VALE, etc, the stocks that POP 10-20% off of consolidation or lows are buys.

Do not think  “I cant chase it, its up 13%“.    I have entered stocks that were up 10% off the lows and they can end the day up 25% , and they can just keep running another 20%+ the next day.  Really?

.

Example:

REXX- I pointed this out yesterday. Up 35%, but I was saying it is just starting.

REXX 1

REXX today.  Would buying REXX as it broke upward yesterday be chasing it? No, its up 40% today!

REXX 3

So what looks good now, possibly ready to launch?  ( keep in mind some have debt, financial problems, but even those ones are popping. proceed with caution). These are still best for those able to monitor their positions.

.

PQ – Ready to break out.

PQ 3-3

ERF from yesterday – I still like it

ERF 3-2

HK –  SWEET FLAT BASE.  This could get crazy.

HK 3-3

LGCY –  Lagging, up 13% today, but still looks ready to go further.

LGCY 3-3

.

For those that do not like cheap stocks under $1, I like this stock longer term.

CNX 3-3

And I still like MRO’s potential and a few others.

MRO 3-2

.

And I pointed out RRC  a few days ago. Moving higher and could just break out & run.

RRC

I also wanted to show you this.  I recommended this a while ago and it has fulfilled the initial target, yet  I wouldn’t sell this and I’ll tell you why.  ( Many Miners and Steel stocks have blown right by initial targets by the way).

.

I had the privilege of  meeting a famous trader back in 2002 or 2003.  He taught me this lesson. He would look at a chart like this and say , ” Do you see that Fire Pole where price dropped down? I look for those.  I dont expect a of of resistance to hold price down when it gets there, so dont sell too early.”  We were discussing Miners at the time, but I treat it the same here. If price gets to $7, it could move right to $9.  I actually find it a bit hit or miss  (70% maybe?), but worth noting.

SXC 3-3

.

So we have had an excellent couple of weeks of trading. Trust me, it is NOT always like this. There are times when it is best to be patient and wait for trades to come to you.   It drives people crazy and many feel that they are missing out when they arent trading (  I can get that way as a trader),  but a true bullish set up takes time.   It is always best to wait for pullbacks to present opportunity. Right now we still seem to be having very trade-able moves out of the recent lows.

Miners may have consolidated for another run higher.  Energy is popping up off of the lows, and Commodity stocks like Steel and aluminum have been experiencing blow off type moves. A prolonged pullback will eventually come, so enjoy this while you can.  Have a nice  Friday trading and have a great weekend! As always, thanks for being here.

~ALEX

Sidenote:

I posted  TWTR & GPRO in yesterdays report.   Then I added this in the comments today. I like to see strong volume after the consolidation, but TWTR volume died down a bit by the end of the day.   GPRO volume was ok,  but TWTR may stall before attempting the run higher, unless it gets a nice surge of volume Friday.  It could ride down the 50sma too.

Alex, thanks for the lessons in here. I have chased NUGT in a Bear market rally and bought the top before so I was gun shy this time. But this is definitely different. I think the lesson in bases is (slowly!) sinking in. Look at the moves in SLW, EXK but actual silver has barely moved compared to gold!

Playing it safe with S&P. In the past I’d be a pig and save it all for just one more burst higher. And we know what happens to pigs…
Scaled out another 1/3 of UPRO. Have a little left in case we go through 2000, but have profit in hand and tight stop. And now have plenty of cash in hand for miners. Bought 1/2 position in ERF and WPX today.

    Note:

If I post 10 trade set ups worthy of watching and trading today, and 10 yesterday , and 10 Tuesday – I’m sure that all here know that I am a trader. I trade in and out , some I hold longer than others, based on what I say in my reports ( commodities are bottomed and running higher daily. Energy may do the same, Miners could be making a second run, etc). So I cannot in real time post when I buy and sell, if I am buying and selling all day.

Also I may leave for the day or for lunch and could get stopped out while I am away, I cant post that in real time.
So if you want the safest route ( less profitable) buy ETFs and try to hold them . I got a request to post all of my trades real time, but cant & wont happen.

I am here to educate and share ideas.. IF I buy HK today and it movs up 10% by the time I send out an alert saying I own it, what good is that? These set ups move F-A-S-T. Then you’d buy it and I’d send an alert that I sold it on the 15% Pop 30 minutes later, and you’d be upset. Trading daily doesnt post in real time well.

I am hoping to share trade ideas here, I try to show the possible market direction too , and many here are doing excellent- We are focused on Miners, Commodities, Energy pretty much right now . but please remember….there is no way on the planet Earth that I am taking all of these trades 🙂 Please manage your positions with personal decisions/ experience , etc like position size, use stops, use selling plans. Think to yourself ” I am going to sell if I gain 10%” or “I am going to sell if it breaks below the 10sma” “I’m going to ride this until it drops below the 10sma” etc. etc. 🙂

      Bill says:

CF, fair enough. Perhaps you could tell us, “Energy Sector looks great, I’m starting to buy Today”, or ” Miners looking Toppy here, I will be selling half may positions”. A lot of time you give us two possible scenarios, it could go higher it could go lower? Yes, we all know that. I’m interested in what you are doing as an experienced trader. Your timing. YES, you do give a lot of that in the posts each morning. I know you don’t have a crystal ball, and maybe some here don’t want to see this posted, I don’t know.

      • chartfreak1
        chartfreak1 says:

I ‘m pretty sure that I did do that 🙂 I said “”selling 1/2 my position in miners and riding the rest until they close below the 8ema. Said it several times.

As for sharing 2 scenarios, it’s because people like you would say “You said it was going higher and it dropped! Didnt you see that possibility?” -LOL

I have to show you 2 possible paths AND I TRY TO SHOW YOU HOW TO REACT to both paths. Its an education that you are getting Bill. You are welcome 🙂

This flag break in Gold. If I pound the table that its going higher and its a head fake, wouldn’t you ask me why I didnt see it coming? And if I say I did see that possibility , what would you say? 🙂

        • Bill
          Bill says:

Fair enough. I remember you saying the miners look good as long as they stay above the 8ema. I sold prematurely there. I know youve been expecting a break out and run to 1300 with gold, that’s been clear. There are no crystal balls for this stuff, people have to realize that if you say its going to 1400 and it drops after going to 1350 that its just the market and you can’t do anything about it. Sorry, if I get too wordy.

  4. Chris
    Chris says:

Hi Alex. First of all I freely admit to having watched much of the recent action from the side lines. As you know I’m much more of a longer term investor rather than short term trader, which require very different mind sets. But watching and learning and hoping to be around for a LONG time yet so loving the process and in time will hopefully add another string to my bow. But in the meantime I have to say you have literally been on fire of late and I can see that MANY, MANY of your subscribers have benefitted greatly as a result. So REALLY, WELL DONE on that and all credit to you, which is richly deserved. Despite the somewhat euphoric feelings of late though I do keep trying to step back and see the bigger picture in an effort to keep everything in perpective. Arguably a strength but sometimes it can feel like a weakeness!! In that regard I was taking a close look at the daily silver chart today and two things struck me. The first is that some kind of possible very bullish cup and handle type pattern could be forming which you actually highlighted in todays report with your SLV chart. (I honestly did this before reading your report! 🙂 ) The other thing that caught my eye though was how we have just bounced off the now rising 66 day ema which also looks positive BUT UNLESS we push on to fresh highs it could be a very similar set up to Mar 2013 as ringed on my chart and set up a much larger correction. Any thoughts or comments, which would be appreciated. 🙂

    • chartfreak1
      chartfreak1 says:

      Hey Chris,

You are not alone, and if that is your trading style, I bet it worked far better than you know in preserving capitol on the way down recently. If this bottom is forming in the Metals, you will be able to invest in a very comfortable and profitable manner.

I will cover it in the weekend report, but I dont expect this to jjust keep running straight up. These usually have weeks and possibly 2 months or so of correction or sideways move.

That will bore us to tears, but it will also guide us along, by revealing what type of run this really was. A nice 38 to 50% correction over time would be really bullish for us and an investor type style like yours. As for Silver, I really do think we need to see some action soon, but it is not mandatory,. I planned on showing that in my wkend report. 🙂

      • Chris
        Chris says:

Thanks Alex and something else to look forward to this weekend! 🙂 And even as a longer term investor I’m very happy to date with how things are going. As you’ve already suggested, a period of correction would look reasonable sooner or later and as long as we make a higher low I would see that as my ‘back up the truck’ opportunity where I would look to reinvest substantial amounts of capital for the longer term. But just as you keep saying..it’s one step at a time and patience is something I have definitely been developing in recent years. Have you heard of the race between the tortosie and the hare!? And which one ultimately won the race!? I’m definitely in the tortoise category!! Lol Just hope to get the same final result!! 🙂

What did everyone make of the afternoon action? S&P and miners could all be putting in tops. I mean, it’s been straight up, so this wouldn’t be unexpected. But I have some newer positions where I chased some. I know, spent last 4 weeks not chasing but when I saw the gold flag break upward for sure yesterday, I went at it. I love buying tops. Minimal leverage so I may just ride EXK down, if it comes to it.
Released X too early, but that was a helluva move. Holding energy sold some covered calls late day in case we move down some next week. 1/3 left in UPRO, but put in a tight (3% trail) stop. But I’m up enough, don’t really care if I get the tip top! GL all.

I hear COT shorted heavily during the morning Gold rally. Possibly adding up to 25,000 shorts (unconfirmed).
Add that to the already high short position and the large price retreat in the afternoon
and I would say a short term top is in.
DUST has a clear five waves down with the Fifth wave subdividing into five smaller waves.
Price has gone past my time window (which happens during a strong trend) and should now rally.
A DUSTy double would be fun!
To see a double from current prices, I’m thinking price will top during the latter part of my date window.

My cycles suggest that the USD should start to rally short term.

If the above scenarios turn out to be correct, Gold’s price rally out of the pennant will prove to be a
fake out. And it was timed perfectly by COT IMHO.

            (refresh for a chart)

That was a fantastic trade. As it is working its way through resistance ( And doing a nice job) it does near the 200sma and is in the extreme overbought zone. It could just go sideways and flag, but also may drop 50% or to the 50sma or trend line shown, so I think it was a great trade, and a great time to sell, even if it pops to the 200sma and then drops.
